HP Officejet 4500
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Since about March 2020, my Officejet 4500 cannot print the black and white/colour aligned.

Black areas show with a slightly offset grey "shadow" unless printed in black only

Photos etc are misaligned.

I have changed cartridges, tested with 2 laptops, full software reintall, done all diagnostics, realigned cartridges countless times.

Print quality page attached.

Is this a sign my reliable printer has given up the ghost or can it be fixed?2020-07-27_112146.jpg

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Does this happen while copying too?

Try the steps from here: https://support.hp.com/in-en/product/hp-officejet-4500-all-in-one-printer-series-g510/3919445/docume...

Try a firmware update: https://support.hp.com/in-en/document/c02919168

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for the answer.  I have tried all the standard solutions, changing cartridge and paper, align catridges and updating software without success.   I can confirm the problem does also occur during copying.

As far as I can see the printer Officejet 4500 G510g does not have a firmware update facility.

i am guessing something in the print heads has become mis-aligned and the printer can't mend itself or fix with the realign facility.

You are right. This is a hardware issue with the printer. Please reach out to the HP Support in your region regarding the service options for your printer.

If the printer is out of warranty, I suggest you upgrade the printer. You may visit Hp Store to check the available printers.

Keep me posted for any other assistance.

Please click “Accept as Solution” if you feel my post solved your issue, it will help others find the solution.
