I've updated the firmware without solving the problem.

I cannot find any reference to this error code associated with this model printer.

I'm lost on this one - any suggestions will be appreciated.

Hi @FatSam,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP OfficeJet 5255 is showing error code 0xB80AEC0C, and updating the firmware did not resolve it. Let’s go through a few steps to check what could be causing this.

Power reset the printer

Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.

Wait at least 60 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.

Remove and reseat cartridges

Open the ink access door and remove both cartridges.

Check for protective tape or debris, then reinstall them firmly until they click.

Check cartridge compatibility

Make sure you are using genuine HP 63 or HP 63XL cartridges.

Non-HP or refilled cartridges can trigger supply system errors.

Clean cartridge contacts

Gently wipe the copper-colored contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer with a lint-free cloth.

This helps restore proper communication between the cartridges and printer.

Start printer without cartridges

Remove both cartridges and power on the printer.

If the error clears, insert cartridges one at a time to identify if one is faulty.

Check for hidden resets

On some OfficeJet models, pressing and holding # + 9 while powering on can trigger a semi-full reset.

This clears memory and may bypass persistent error codes.

Inspect for hardware blockage

Look inside the cartridge area for paper debris, dried ink, or obstructions.

Even small blockages can cause startup errors.

Run diagnostics via HP Smart app

If the printer connects via USB or Wi-Fi, open HP Smart and run “Printer Maintenance.”

This can sometimes clear error states that firmware updates do not.

I hope this helps.

Sorry for the tardy delay - I was out of town.

I tried all but one of the suggestions, none solved the issue.

Can you provide more information regarding the 'press the # + 9 keys while booting'. Press the keys on the PC?

Thanks

Hi @FatSam,a

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

I see the email icon next to my profile, but nothing happens when I click on it. I've tried 2 browsers (Chrome & Firefox) and get the same result each time. I've checked the privacy setting - nothing is being blocked.
