HP Officejet 9015
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Just purchased new HP 9015 and wanted to change update options to "Alert me" when available, but option is greyed out with "Download automatically selected". Access via printer screen give message that this function has been locked out by the person who set up the computer. I am that person and I did not set that option,  I was also unable to change the option in the EWS - Tooils - Printer Updates - Firmware Updates - Printer Update Options as this feature is also grayed out.

The Settings - Security - Administrator Settings - Enable/Disable features is set to Enable All, and I do not yet have a password installed. I have cycled the printer off/on several times and still the update feature choices are still grayed out.

What can I do?

@un4tun8, Welcome to HP Support Community!

The only option left is to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

The reset instructions are specific for your printer and performing those steps on a different printer may brick the device.

I've sent you a private message with reset instructions, follow the reset instruction to perform a full reset and re-initialize the printer.

In order to access your private messages, click the private message icon on the upper right corner of your HP Forums profile, next to your profile Name or simply click on this link.

Hope this helps!

Thank you for your reply TEJ1602,

What menu are you using in your PM?

I have checked the HP Printer screen options, the HP Printer Assistant on my computer, and the EWS. I cannot find any menu that mentions any of the options you quote in your PM  (Support Menu - or Reset Menu - or Semi-Full Reset).

I have reset the printer back to factory defaults using the printer screen (settings-printer maintenance-restore-restore factory defaults) and then reconnected to wifi router. The printer screen ( -- printer maintenance- update the printer - printer update options ) still gives the message ""This feature has been locked out by the person who set up the printer."

Back in the EWS- -  printer update options is still greyed out, with "Install updates automatically (required)" selected.

Go through the instructions again, the message has steps on how to access the menu.

Keep me posted for further assistance.

TEJ1602, Figured out your PM. Reset the printer following your instructions. Had to re-establish wifi.

Un4tun8ly (sic) the procedure did not solve the problem. The choice to select printer update options is grayed out with Auto pre-selected.

If your PM  had mentioned that there is a hidden menu on the printer, I would not have been so confused with your procedure.

I'll give you a kudo for your effort.

This looks like it requires remote assistance.

I'd suggest you reach out to the HP Support in your region for further course of action.

Hope this helps!
