Hello!

When I bought this printer a couple years ago it worked.  But about a month ago, It didn't work. it won't print anything from PC Windows 2004. I want to print stuff from my computer but it won't do that anymore. But it still prints from laptop Wndows 10 "1909".

Problem: I did everything as you described here, but it did not help. The printer prints reports from HP Smart, such as "print quality", "network status" and so on, but it never prints from other applications. When sending to print, the printer seems to start printing, but it does not appear on the printer screen that printing is in progress, and paper is also not fed. Even after the end of printing, it seems to make a noise, as if it had printed. Demo and test pages form HP scan and print doctor are also not printed. It seems that it all started after one of the Windows 1 updates. When the device is connected wirelessly via a router. Please help solve the problem.

Hi @Dimidrolus,

I'd like to help!

Try adding the printer with windows built-in drivers-

Set Windows Update to automatically download driver software

Confirm that your computer is set to automatically download driver software.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Change device installation settings.

  2. In the Device Installation Settings window, select the Yes option, and then click Save Changes.

Example of selecting the Yes option

Wireless or wired network connection (Windows 10, 😎

Install the built-in print driver over a network connection with Windows 10 or Windows 8.

  1. In Windows, search for and open Control Panel.

  2. Click Devices and Printers, and then click Add a printer.

    Clicking Add a printer

  3. On the Choose a device or printer to add to this PC window, select your printer, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver. If your printer is not in the list, continue with these steps.

Example of printers found in the Choose a device or printer to this PC window

  4. Click The printer I want isn't listed, and then select Add a local printer or network printer with manual settings.

Selecting Add a printer using local or network printer with manual settings

  5. Click Next.

  6. Select the port to be used by your printer, such as USB001 for a USB connected printer, and then click Next.

  7. Click Windows Update, and then wait for the print drivers to update.

  8. Click HP, Hewlett-Packard, or Hewlett Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

    • If your printer is in the list, select it, click Next, and then follow the on-screen instructions to install the driver.

    • If your printer is not in the list, click the back arrow in the upper left corner of the window two times to return to the Find a printer by other options step, and then continue with these steps.

  9. Select Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname, and then click Next.

Selecting Add a printer using TCP/IP address or hostname

  10. Select Autodetect from the Device type drop-down list.

  11. Type your printer IP address into the text box, and then click Next.

To find the printer IP address, print a Wireless Network Test report or a Network Configuration page.

  12. Wait for the computer to connect to the printer, and then click Next to install the print driver.

Hi, thanks a lot for your help and reply. I did all steps but t still didn't help. My printer was found in the list and Windows automatically installed the drivers for it, but... When I sending to print a file there is still "home screen" on printer display, no label "Printing...", but the sound is like the printer is printing...

Let's try and uninstall the printer software from the root level on your PC and install the full feature printer software.

First, unplug the USB cable from the printer if present.

  • Go to Control panel – Programs and feature – Select all the HP printer entries and uninstall them.
    • Now go to Control panel – Devices and printer – Select all the printer entries and remove the device.
    • Restart your computer.
    • Click the bottom-left Start button on desktop, type device manager in the search box and tap Device Manager on the menu.
    • Once in device manager, click on the view tab in the top & choose “Show hidden devices”.
    • Then from the device manager list, check the entries under “Printer” – If there are any entries, please right click and choose “uninstall” – In the confirm device un-install pop-up, make sure you select the box which says “Delete the driver software for this device".
    • Also, check the entries under "printer queue" and "imaging devices" and repeat the same exercise. Delete any printer entry or any entry which says “Unknown device”.
    • Once done, close device-manger. Then press the "windows key" + "r" to get the "Run" window open - Type "printui.exe /s" and press enter.
    • Under print server properties, go to drivers - remove any entry there as well.
    • Again, go running window, type – “c:/programdata” – Go to Hewlett Packard folder, remove any printer related folders & files.
    • Once done you can try cleaning out your temporary files and cached files. You can try using automated applications like some cleaner software's that you can download from the internet.
    • Now restart your computer again.
    • Open the Run window again, type “services.msc” and press ok to get services window.
    • Scroll down to “Remote Procedure Call (RPC)” – right-click and go to properties. Make sure the service is started and startup type is “Automatic”.
    • Now scroll up and go to “Function Discovery Provider Host” – right-click and select properties – Change the startup type to “manual” and start the service.
    • Repeat the same exercise on “Function Discovery Resource Publication” as well
    • Windows image acquisition stop and restart the service

Reinstall the drivers from Software and drivers page

Let me know how this goes!

Hi, thanks for your reply. Finally I've found the time to try. I did everything, butstill can't print, now the docs are getting error in print queue and the printer doesn't even make a view of printing, no sound or sthg else. It still prints the reports from HP Smart, network connection report, printing quality report and so on, but if I choose "Print document" and some pdf file, it shows error again, and the document stucks in print queue, Same thing with the printing from other applications.... I've upgraded the firmware of printer today with the newest from the hp site, but still..

I would suggest you try the Windows built-in drivers. Follow the steps below:

•    Go to Control Panel - Devices and Printers - Click on "Add printer" and follow the on-screen instructions.

•    When the page prompts for the drivers, select "Windows update". The driver list will be updated.

•    Click HP, Hewlett Packard, or Hewlett-Packard in the Manufacturer pane, and then click the name of your printer in the Printers pane.

Refer to this document HP Printers - Installing and Using the Windows Built-in Print Driver for help.

Let me know if this helps.

Thanks for your reply! I've tried this way before, it didn't help. It looks like I've deleted some iportant components as now printer even doesn't try to print, only mistake appears and that's it. May be I must reinstall some windows components? And another question: my printer is connected via wireless network, the PC is connected to the same router, but with wire. It wasn't the problem before but may be it's problem now with windows update? If I connect the printer with USB wire, will it be able to print wirelessly from another laptops still?

Or maybe you know another way to fix my problem...

Thanks a lot.

By the way I've tried scanning - complete, I've tried printing by sending to hpePrint - complete.  Is there a possibility that the problem occurs because of bridge router (it gives wi-fi to devices, including printer), the bridge is connected to the main wi-fi and LAN router (the PC is connected to this router)? All network connection tests passed well...

HP Recommended

The router is probably not configured in the bridge mode. This could be a NAT issue which means multiple routers are handing out IP addresses and causing a conflict. Bridge mode means the router acts as purely an access point and not a router.

I recommend you reach your ISP.

HP Recommended

If I connect the printer to main router, it doesn't work too. The bridge router, which is closer to printer, is giving wi-fi to some devices, tablet and smartphones. So it is in bridge mode, right?
