My HP office jet 6978 printer will not print or scan unless I am physically at the printer to hit "ok" to an error code-- if not, it freezes on the screen, holding up print jobs in a que, and then still have to hit the "OK" to release each job that is holed up in the que. Cancelled INstant INK subscription- but still has this printer linked to the In-active account. I have disconnected the printer from my devices, factory reset, de-registered from main HP acct- but still ghosting this message that prompts me to hit "ok" on the main screen of physical printer or it freezes all jobs. The Error message says HP Instant Ink Status/ visit hpinstantink.com for more info. with yellow exclamation always lit up. See pic attached-any suggestions? thanks

Hi @beachismyrelig,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like your HP OfficeJet Pro 6978 is stuck in a loop related to the cancelled Instant Ink subscription. Here’s a step-by-step guide to address this issue.
Check for Any Remaining Instant Ink Settings:
- Go to the printer’s settings menu.
- Look for any options related to HP Instant Ink and disable them if available.
Update the Printer Firmware:
- Connect the printer to your network.
- Check for firmware updates through the printer’s control panel or by visiting the HP website.
Clear Printer Queue and Reset:
- From your computer, go to the printer settings and clear the print queue.
- Perform another factory reset on the printer if not already done. Ensure to follow the instructions for a full factory reset.
Reconfigure Network Settings:
- Disconnect the printer from any network connections.
- Reconnect it to your network and reconfigure the wireless settings.
Check HP Account Settings:
- Log in to your HP account online.
- Ensure that the printer is removed from the Instant Ink subscription and not linked to any active accounts.
- Check for any remaining subscriptions or services that might be affecting your printer.
Following these steps should help resolve the issue with your printer being stuck in the Instant Ink loop.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.

Thanks for the response. I have tried all of the above. I’ve spoke with tech support instant ink and also walked through different solutions- no success. My printer will not work - it is locked into this instant ink account . I need a way to completely hard reset this printer back to “out of box” factory… and not “restore” from the settings panel. Can you advise?
