macOS 26.0 Tahoe

just purchased and setup 8138e Office Jet Pro.  During setup the screen is stuck on Firmware Updates and will not continue to next screen.  Continue button does not function and back arrow button does not function.  thus cannot print anything but scan does function.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e is getting stuck on the firmware update screen, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Restart the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for about one minute.
  • Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.

Check the Internet Connection:

  • Ensure your printer is connected to a stable Internet connection as firmware updates require a reliable network.

Manually Check for Updates:

  • If the printer restarts successfully, you can use the printer's control panel to check for updates manually:
    • On the control panel home screen, touch Menu.
    • Scroll to Utilities and touch Settings.
    • Select Firmware Update, then Check for Update.

Connect to a Different Network:

  • If the problem persists, try connecting your printer to a different Wi-Fi network to see if it resolves the issue.

Use the HP App:

  • Install the HP app on a mobile device or computer.
  • Use the app to update the printer firmware, as it can sometimes bypass direct printer controls.
