@Craig1011, Welcome to HP Support Community,
Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue
If your HP OfficeJet Pro 8138e is getting stuck on the firmware update screen, here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue:
Restart the Printer:
- Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
- Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer and wait for about one minute.
- Reconnect the power cord and turn the printer back on.
Check the Internet Connection:
- Ensure your printer is connected to a stable Internet connection as firmware updates require a reliable network.
Manually Check for Updates:
- If the printer restarts successfully, you can use the printer's control panel to check for updates manually:
- On the control panel home screen, touch Menu.
- Scroll to Utilities and touch Settings.
- Select Firmware Update, then Check for Update.
Connect to a Different Network:
- If the problem persists, try connecting your printer to a different Wi-Fi network to see if it resolves the issue.
Use the HP App:
- Install the HP app on a mobile device or computer.
- Use the app to update the printer firmware, as it can sometimes bypass direct printer controls.
I hope this helps.
Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.
Take care and have a good day.
