I installed new full set of HP ink cartridges. Message says
"There is a problem with printer or ink system"
I followed instructions to trouble shoot by turning off unplugging and turning off again but nothing works.
Suggestions?

Hi @shadon,
Welcome to The HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
I understand you are getting the error message you're encountering ("There is a problem with printer or ink system") on your HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus typically indicates an issue with the ink system, which could involve the cartridges, printhead, or internal components of the printer.
Here are some steps you can try to resolve this issue:
1. Perform a Hard Reset
- With the printer powered on, disconnect the power cord from the printer and unplug it from the wall.
- Wait about 60 seconds.
- Plug the power cord back into the wall and reconnect it to the printer.
- Power on the printer and check if the error is cleared.
2. Remove and Reinstall Ink Cartridges
- Open the ink cartridge access door.
- Remove each ink cartridge one by one.
- Inspect the cartridges for any protective plastic tape that might have been missed during installation. Ensure that the cartridges are genuine HP and not expired.
- Reinstall the cartridges securely, ensuring each one clicks into place.
3. Check for Clogged Printhead
- Turn on the printer.
- Go to the Setup menu (or Tools), and then select Printer Maintenance > Clean Printhead.
- Allow the printer to run the cleaning cycle. This may take a few minutes.
If this doesn’t help:
- Remove the printhead: Open the ink cartridge access door and remove the cartridges, then lift the latch that holds the printhead in place.
- Carefully remove the printhead and inspect it for any visible ink clogs or debris. Clean it with a lint-free cloth and distilled water, then let it dry for a few minutes.
- Reinstall the printhead, secure the latch, and reinstall the cartridges.
4. Update Printer Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer
Outdated firmware can sometimes cause ink system errors.
- Visit the HP Support site and search for the latest firmware for your HP Officejet Pro 8600.
- Follow the instructions to update the firmware.
5. Check for Obstructions
- Open the printer’s paper path and ink cartridge area to check for any paper jams or debris.
- Gently clean the interior of the printer if necessary.
6. Perform a Semi-Full Reset (Factory Reset)
This will restore the printer to its original factory settings, which can clear certain errors.
- Turn off the printer.
- Press and hold the # and 9 buttons simultaneously.
- While holding, turn on the printer, then release the buttons once the printer boots up.
- Follow the on-screen prompts to complete the reset.
