Hello.  My HP8600 printer has suddenly stopped working.  The on/off button doesn't seem to  work anymore and therefore I cant use the printer.  The printer is in really good condition, even if its quite a few years old.  Its not been used very heavily at all.   Can it be repaired?  I have loads of cartridges left for it!  Any advice would be gratefully received.  Thanks.

Hi @JW71-_,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to assist you.

If the power button on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 is unresponsive, it can be due to several potential causes. Below are some troubleshooting steps and advice to determine if the issue can be fixed:

1. Check the Power Source

  • Ensure the printer is securely plugged into a working power outlet.
  • Try connecting the printer to a different outlet to rule out power supply issues.
  • Avoid using power strips or surge protectors temporarily; plug the printer directly into the wall.

2. Perform a Power Reset

  • Unplug the printer from the power source and disconnect all cables.
  • Wait 2-3 minutes to allow any residual charge to dissipate.
  • Reconnect the power cable directly to the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Check if the printer powers on automatically. If it does, the issue may be with the button itself.

3. Inspect the Power Button

  • Mechanical Issue: If the power button feels stuck or doesn't "click," it might be physically damaged or worn out.
  • Internal Connection: A loose internal connection between the button and the mainboard could be the problem.

4. Consider Repair Options

  • Local Repair Shop: A local printer or electronics repair shop may be able to replace the power button or internal components.

Please mark this post as “Accepted Solution” if the issue is resolved and if you feel this reply was helpful click “Yes”.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a great day ahead!
