Printer keeps saying unavailable trying to print from PDF and when I go down to more options it will not let me select them I guess it's because it is not available why is it not available! I have checked the connection it is connected to the Wi-Fi. I restarted my phone the printer and the router that doesn't seem to be the problem. And then when it was printing it would only print and color or pink everything's pink plz help ty. I'm ready to go buy a new printer something that's very easy and newer that doesn't cost a lot anybody have any suggestions I just need something for my daughter for homeschool. Ty ! 🙏

Hi @Sarahep82,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I can feel your frustration when a printer says “Unavailable” and refuses to print, especially for something as important as your daughter’s homeschool work; it feels like hitting a wall. And then when it does print, everything comes out pink? That’s enough to make anyone want to toss the printer out the window. Let’s fix this step by step so you can get back to smooth, colorful printing.

Why This Happens

  • The printer shows Unavailable because the computer or app can’t communicate properly with the printer, even if Wi-Fi looks connected.
  • Pink-only printing usually means color ink imbalance or a clogged printhead.

Troubleshooting Steps (with empathy and sensory tone)

1. Restart Everything (You Did This Great!)

You’ve already restarted the printer, router, and phone, perfect first step. Let’s go deeper.

2. Reconnect Printer in HP App

  • Open the HP app on your phone or PC.
  • Remove the printer from the app.
  • Add it back by tapping + and selecting your printer.
  • Feel that little sense of relief when the app shows Ready instead of Unavailable.

3. Check Printer Status

  • On the printer screen, confirm it shows Connected to your Wi-Fi (same network as your device).
  • If not, reconnect using the Wireless Setup Wizard.

4. Fix Pink Printing

  • On the printer:
    • Go to Setup → Tools → Clean Printhead.
  • Watch the printer hum softly as it cleans the nozzles.
  • If colors still look wrong, repeat cleaning up to 3 times.
  • Then run Align Printer from the same menu.

5. Update Firmware

6. Try a Test Print

  • Print a diagnostic page from the printer menu.
  • If colors are still off, one cartridge may be empty or expired—replace with genuine HP cartridges for best results.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
