@HHC1, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding 'Load Tray 1, Plain Paper' Error on HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP LaserJet Pro MFP M148fdw printer is displaying an error indicating "Load tray 1, Plain Paper" despite the tray being full, follow these steps to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

Check the Paper Condition

Ensure that the paper loaded in Tray 1 meets the printer specifications. Use clean, undamaged, and correctly sized paper.

  • Remove the stack of paper from the tray.
  • Check for obstructions inside the tray.
  • Replace any wrinkled, folded, or torn paper.

Load Paper Correctly

  1. Load plain paper into the main input tray.
  2. Adjust the paper width guide to snugly fit against the paper stack without pressing too tightly.

Check the Paper Settings

Ensure that the printer settings match the paper type and size loaded.

  1. On your computer, open the document you want to print.
  2. Click File and then Print.
  3. Select your printer and click Properties or Preferences.
  4. Set the correct paper type and size in the driver settings.
  5. Click OK and then Print.

Perform a Printer Reset

Sometimes, restarting the printer can clear the error.

  1. Turn off the printer by pressing the power button.
  2. Wait for 15 seconds, then turn the printer back on.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
