My printer is experiencing paper jam issues for legal size paper, What maybe the problem for this? I already check the printer and no paper has been stuck.

Hi @cjhn,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Experiencing paper jams with legal-size paper on your HP Smart Tank printer can be frustrating, especially when you can't find any visible obstructions. Here are some potential causes and solutions:

Potential Causes and Solutions

Incorrect Paper Loading

  • Ensure Proper Loading: Make sure the legal-size paper is loaded correctly in the input tray. It should be aligned properly and not overloaded.
  • Adjust Paper Guides: Adjust the paper width guides so that they rest against the edges of the paper without bending it.

Paper Type and Quality

  • Check Paper Quality: Ensure the paper you're using is not curled, damp, or damaged. Poor-quality paper can cause jams.
  • Use Recommended Paper: Use paper recommended by HP for your printer model.

Printer Settings

  • Paper Size Settings: Make sure the printer settings match the paper size you are using. If the settings are incorrect, the printer may not handle the paper properly.
    • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Paper > Paper Size, and select Legal.
    • Ensure your print job settings in the software application also match the paper size.

Clean Paper Path

  • Inspect and Clean: Even if you don't see any paper stuck, there might be small bits or dust in the paper path.
    • Open the printer and inspect the paper path and rollers.
    • Use a lint-free cloth lightly moistened with distilled water to clean the rollers.

Firmware Update

  • Update Firmware: Ensure your printer's firmware is up to date. Firmware updates can resolve many operational issues.
    • Go to the HP Support website, find your printer model, and download the latest firmware update.

Printer Reset

  • Perform a Hard Reset: Sometimes, a reset can clear any errors or misconfigurations.
    • Turn off the printer and disconnect the power cord.
    • Wait for 60 seconds, reconnect the power cord, and turn on the printer.

Check Paper Tray Alignment

  • Ensure Proper Tray Alignment: Ensure the paper tray is fully inserted and properly aligned. A misaligned tray can cause the printer to misfeed paper

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
