My HP Smart Tank 551 stopped printing.

I unplugged it and waited as suggested and it appeared to maybe want to print but some icons came up on the screen and I do not know what they mean. Two large circles on the left side and on the left side three items, WiFi symbol and a graph with four bars going upward

Hi @MJJ1218,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your HP Smart Tank 551 printer might be experiencing some connectivity or communication issues. The icons you described could indicate various statuses or errors. Let's break them down.

Two Large Circles on the Left Side: These circles could represent ink levels or the status of the printer. If they are filled, it might indicate that the printer is ready and functional. If they are empty or have a symbol inside them, it could indicate an error or a need for attention.

Three Items on the Right Side:

  • WiFi Symbol: This symbol indicates the status of the printer's wireless connection. If it's solid or blinking, it means the printer is connected to a wireless network. If it's crossed out or not visible, it indicates that there might be an issue with the wireless connection.
  • Graph with Four Bars Going Upward: This usually represents the signal strength of the wireless connection. More bars indicate a stronger connection.

Here's what you can try to troubleshoot the issue:

  • Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and have sufficient ink levels.
  • Check Wireless Connection: Make sure the printer is connected to the correct Wi-Fi network and that the network is functioning properly. You may need to reconnect the printer to the Wi-Fi network if there are any issues.
  • Restart Printer and Devices: Try restarting both your printer and the devices you're printing from (computer, smartphone, etc.). Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve connectivity issues.
  • Update Printer Firmware: Check if there are any firmware updates available for your printer. Updating the firmware can often resolve various issues.
  • Reset Printer: As a last resort, you can try resetting the printer to its factory settings. This will erase any custom settings, so make sure to note down any important configurations before doing so.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
