My HP Smart Tank Printer 515, suddenly has all icons blinking on the panel and the scanner belt that moves makes a bang sound and stops.

Tried all possible options, like removing the power cord, restarting, but no hope.

The pictures I took both are continuously blinking and the scanner belt gets stuck in between like in the 3rd

Hi @NG3110,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP Smart Tank 515 printer is showing all icons blinking on the control panel, and the scanner belt makes a loud noise before stopping. Let’s go through a few steps to identify what’s causing this.

Perform a Hard Power Reset

While the printer is turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Unplug it from the wall outlet and wait for 60 seconds.

Plug it directly back into a wall socket (not a surge protector) and turn it on.

Check if the icons stop blinking.

Check for Scanner Carriage Obstruction

Open the scanner lid and inspect the scanner belt and glass area for any paper bits, tape, or debris.

Gently move the scanner bar by hand toward the center to see if it moves freely.

If it feels stuck or grinds, there may be something obstructing the scanner path.

Clean the Scanner Strip (if visible)

If your model has a transparent encoder strip (a thin plastic film near the scanner bar), use a clean, lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to wipe it gently.

Avoid using too much pressure or touching any metal parts.

Check for Loose or Misaligned Parts

Inspect inside the scanner area for any loose plastic parts or clips that may have come off during operation.

Gently push the scanner assembly into its normal resting position on the left side before closing the lid.

Update or Reset Firmware (if the printer responds)

If the printer powers on and connects to your PC or HP Smart app, try updating the firmware from the HP Smart app or HP Support website.

If not responsive, perform a semi-full reset (if available in your service menu). To access it, press and hold Power + Cancel + Black Copy + Color Copy for a few seconds (timing may vary by model).

Run a Start-up Test

After resetting and reassembling, turn the printer on again and observe if the scanner bar moves smoothly without the bang sound.

If the icons still blink together, it indicates a possible scanner mechanism or firmware failure.

I hope this helps.
