HP Tango
iOS

I have an HP Tango (2RY54-64001). The i light and top light are both blinking yellow. The bar at the bottom is solid yellow. I have connected the printer to my I WiFi and can see it listed there. When I try to print, the cartridge slide over, but the red x comes on and nothing will print. I have recently unenrolled from HP Instant Ink. I bought 2 Genuine HP Instant Ink cartridges from an office supply store and have installed them in the printer. What am I doing wrong? Why are all the lights yellow and nothing will print?

Hi @Thrine3000,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand what's happening here—those blinking yellow lights and the solid yellow bar are indicators that something's not quite right with the printer! Since you've recently unenrolled from HP Instant Ink and bought Genuine HP Instant Ink cartridges, it's possible that the printer isn't recognizing the new cartridges as valid, since they're tied to your previous Instant Ink subscription. Let’s work through this!

Here’s what I suggest trying:

Check Cartridge Compatibility:

  • Even though they’re Genuine HP Instant Ink cartridges, sometimes the printer won't accept them if they were meant for Instant Ink subscriptions. Try using standard HP cartridges (non-Instant Ink) instead.

Reset the Printer:

  • Unplug the printer from power while it’s on.
  • Wait 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This can sometimes reset any temporary glitches.

Reinstall the Cartridges:

  • Open the printer and remove the cartridges.
  • Check the contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer for any ink or debris, and gently clean with a lint-free cloth if needed.
  • Reinstall the cartridges, making sure they click into place.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

  • If possible, update the firmware via the HP Smart app on your iOS device. Sometimes updates can resolve recognition issues with cartridges.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Press and hold the Wi-Fi button and the Power button at the same time for about 5 seconds.
  • Release the buttons and wait for the printer to reset itself.

Check for Ink Smears or Jams:

  • Open the printer and make sure there are no paper jams or obstructions.
  • Check the ink carriage area for any stuck bits of paper or debris.

A few questions to help narrow this down:

  • Are these new Instant Ink cartridges you bought showing as enrolled or not enrolled in the printer settings?
  • Have you tried using regular HP cartridges (not Instant Ink) since unenrolling?
  • When the red X appears, does it show any specific error message in the HP Smart app?

Let me know what you find—let’s get your Tango back to printing!

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
