Photosmart A516 printer. Error message says wrong cartridge but it has worked fine for months. Using 110 color cartridge.

If your HP Photosmart A516 printer is displaying a "wrong cartridge" error message despite previously working fine, there are several steps you can take to troubleshoot the issue:

Check Cartridge Compatibility: Ensure that the cartridge you are using, HP 110 Tri-color inkjet print cartridge, is compatible with the printer. Although it might have worked before, reconfirm if it's the right cartridge for your printer model.

Reinstall the Cartridge:

  • Open the printer cover.
  • Remove the cartridge and inspect it for any damage or dirt on contacts.
  • Reinstall the cartridge making sure it is seated properly.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • If the error persists after reinstalling, manually clean the cartridge contacts to ensure proper connectivity.
  • Use a lint-free cloth to gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridge.

Reset the Printer:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug its power cord.
  • Wait for about 30 seconds, then plug the power cord back in and turn it on.

Replace the Cartridge:

  • If cleaning does not resolve the error, it might be necessary to replace the cartridge with a new HP 110 Tri-color cartridge.
