I have an HP Office Pro 8610 that is suddently giving me an error message: "One or more ink cartridges appear to be damaged. Replace with new ink cartridges". A little red circle with an "M" also appears, which I assume means the Magenta cartridge. The cartridge in a genuine HP 951 (CN051A) with a warranty expiration date of 11/25. Am I interpreting the screen correctly that the magenta cartridge is the issue? How do I get a replacement, I do not have any receipts since the printer was a gift.  Is there any guarantee after getting a new cartridge that it solves the problem?  New ones are $$

Hi @sbepko,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are facing an issue with your HP Officejet Pro 8610 showing a cartridge error, especially if the cartridge is still under warranty, here are steps you can try to resolve the issue:

Yes, based on the red circle with an "M" on the screen, it does seem that your printer is indicating a problem specifically with the magenta cartridge. You’re interpreting it correctly!

Troubleshoot the Cartridge:

Remove the magenta cartridge and inspect it for any damage or leaks.

Use a clean, lint-free cloth to gently wipe the copper contacts on the cartridge and inside the printer.

Reinsert the cartridge and ensure it’s securely seated.

Clean Contacts:

Carefully remove the cartridge, check for any dirt or debris on the contacts, and gently clean them with a lint-free cloth. Repeat this process for the printer's internal contacts as well.

Reinstall Cartridges:

After cleaning, reinstall the cartridges and ensure they click securely into place. Restart the printer and see if the error is resolved.

Run a Printhead Clean:

Use the printer's control panel to perform a printhead cleaning. This can sometimes resolve issues with cartridge recognition.

Update Printer Firmware: Update the firmware on an HP printer

Ensure your printer firmware is up-to-date, as this can sometimes help with compatibility and error messages.

Trying a New Cartridge:

If HP provides a replacement or you decide to purchase a new magenta cartridge, the replacement should ideally resolve the issue if the error stems from the cartridge itself.

If the error persists, it could point to an issue with the printer’s printhead, in which case further support may be needed to address it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
