@JamieJJ, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The HP OfficeJet Pro 9020 series can occasionally signal problems with ink cartridges, even after replacement. Here's how to troubleshoot the issue:

  1. Verify Cartridge Installation:
    • Ensure the cartridge is installed correctly. Push it in firmly to make sure it snaps into place.
    • Check that the cartridge is the correct type for your printer. Ensure that its packaging corresponds to the assigned slot and color code.

Removing and installing cartridges

Clean the Cartridge Contacts:

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it.
  • Remove the problematic blue cartridge and inspect it for any residue on the gold-colored electrical contacts.
  • Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Place the cartridge back into its slot firmly.

Reset the Printer:

  • Perform a printer reset by turning it off, unplugging the power cord from the back, and waiting 60 seconds.
  • Plug it back in and turn on the printer.

Check Cartridge Authenticity:

Print Quality Diagnostic Report:

  • Print a diagnostic page via the printer settings to check for any issue indicators.
  • On the printer control panel, swipe down to open the dashboard, go to Setup > Reports > Print Quality Report.

Print Quality Diagnostic Page

Replace the Cartridge Again:

  • If problems persist, the current blue cartridge might be defective. Consider replacing it with another genuine HP cartridge.
