Hi there @SeanTL, and welcome to HP Support Community!

Thank you for reaching out with your concern. I'm glad to assist you today.

We understand that your HP Officejet pro 8020 printer is stuck in validation mode, please follow these steps,

Reinstall the Ink Cartridge

  • Open the cartridge access door.
  • Remove the black cartridge and inspect for protective tape, make sure it’s fully removed.
  • Reinsert the cartridge firmly until it clicks into place.
  • Close the access door and wait for the printer to recognize the cartridge.

Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  • Wait for 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  • This resets internal memory and may clear the validation mode.

Perform Restore factory default, and re-onboard the printer.
