@DKM70, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If your HP Smart Tank 5101 printer is not powering up despite a functioning power cord, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to identify and potentially resolve the issue:

Check the Basics:

  • Ensure that the power cord is securely connected to the printer and the power outlet.
  • Verify that the power outlet is working by connecting another device to it.

Perform a Power Reset:

  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the power outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds to allow any residual charge to dissipate.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer and the power outlet.
  • Press the power button to turn on the printer.

Inspect for Damage:

  • Examine the power cord and the printer's power connection for any visible damage or signs of wear.
  • If any damage is observed, replacing the power cord or seeking professional repair services may be necessary.

Use a Different Power Outlet:

  • Try plugging the printer into a different power outlet to rule out an issue with the current outlet.

Check for Indicator Lights:

  • Look for any indicator lights on the printer’s control panel. If they are lit or blinking, refer to the printer’s manual to understand their meaning.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • With the printer turned on (if possible), disconnect the power cord from the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • After a minute, reconnect the printer’s power cord back to the wall outlet and then to the printer.
  • Turn on the printer by pressing the power button.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.

I have tried the troubled shooting items mentioned below several times and the printer will not power on. I also checked the voltage on the power cord with a volt meter and that was OK (120 vac was detected).  Next I used the voltage detector pen to check for voltage in the printer near the power cable connection point, voltage was detected. At this point I suspect the problem to be internal to the printer.
