Hi @paddycake72,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It sounds like there might be a clogging issue or an air bubble affecting the black ink cartridge. Here are some steps you can try to resolve the issue.
- Clean the Print Head: Use the printer's software to run a print head cleaning cycle. This can often resolve minor clogs that prevent the black ink from flowing properly.
- Check Ink Levels: Ensure that the black ink cartridge is properly inserted and has sufficient ink.
- Manual Cleaning: If the print head cleaning doesn't work, you can manually clean the print head. This involves gently wiping the print head with a lint-free cloth dampened with distilled water. Be very careful not to damage the print head or contacts.
- Check for Air Bubbles: Sometimes, air bubbles can form in the ink cartridge or print head, preventing proper ink flow. You can gently tap the cartridge on a paper towel to encourage any bubbles to rise to the top.
- Replace the Cartridge: If cleaning doesn't work, the black ink cartridge might be defective or depleted. Try replacing it with a new one to see if that resolves the issue.
- Printer Reset: Sometimes, resetting the printer to its factory settings can resolve software-related issues that may be causing the problem.
If these steps don't resolve the issue, there may be a more significant hardware problem with the printer.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
