Both computers are new, run 15.7.1.  The printer has not had any problems with earlier computers:  MBPro 2019, MBPro 2013, iMac 2019.  The MBAir 15" and 13" are 2025.  The 15" has no problem with scanning from or printing to my HP 2018 all-in-one.  The latest HP.app is installed.

Hi @LeRoy53,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand your HP LaserJet P2055dn prints fine from your MacBook Air 13" (2025), but always fails from your MacBook Air 15" (2025) even though both are on macOS 15.7.1 and have the latest HP software installed. Let’s go through a few steps to fix this printing “failure” message.

Confirm both Macs are using the same printer driver

On your 13" Mac, go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners → [HP 2055dn] → Options & Supplies → General and note the Kind/Driver used (for example, “HP LaserJet P2055dn” or “Generic PostScript Printer”).

On your 15" Mac, do the same.

If the 15" shows “Generic Printer” or a different driver name, remove the printer and re-add it using the correct HP LaserJet P2055dn driver.

Remove and re-add the printer

Go to System Settings → Printers & Scanners.

Select the HP 2055dn, click Remove Printer (-).

Then click Add Printer (+) → choose your printer from the list.

Make sure to select “Use: HP LaserJet P2055dn” (not AirPrint or Generic).

Click Add and test printing again.

Reset the printing system (if issue persists)

In Printers & Scanners, right-click (or Control-click) in the printers list and choose Reset printing system...

Confirm and then re-add the HP 2055dn as above.

This clears any corrupted printer configurations.

Download and install the HP Printer Drivers for macOS

Visit Apple’s official page: https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1888

Download and install the HP Printer Drivers for macOS package.

After installation, re-add the printer and test again.

Check connection type and IP (if networked)

If the printer is connected via Ethernet, open System Settings → Printers & Scanners → [Printer] → Options & Supplies → Location/URL.

Ensure the IP address matches what’s shown on the printer’s configuration page.

If not, delete and re-add the printer by IP: Add Printer → IP → enter printer’s IP → Use: HP LaserJet P2055dn.

I hope this helps.
