HP DeskJet 2755e All-in-One Printer
macOS 12.0 Monterey

I Have a 2755e printer that I purchased for work. I work in the field and needed something I could print with remotely. I was able to print through the wifi direct option, connecting directly to the printers wifi. Now for some reason that will not work. I tried connecting to my phone but the printer doesn't see my phones hotspot network. I tried connecting via USB cable and the printer shows up but still will not print. I keep getting errors with the blinking envelope. I looked into it and it seems the printer needs to be connected to the internet now because of the instant ink subscription or it won't work? This is very frustrating as I cannot print anything other than various setup sheets when pressing button combinations on the printer, all of which don't help. Any assistance would be great!

Hi @tstevens0623,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand how frustrating this situation must be. It sounds like you're having trouble connecting your HP 2755e printer to your devices, and it might be related to the Instant Ink subscription requirement. Let's try a few troubleshooting steps to see if we can get it working.

Troubleshooting Steps:

Check Printer Connection:

  • Ensure the printer is powered on and in a ready state.
  • Make sure the printer is within range of your phone's hotspot or Wi-Fi network.

Reset Printer:

  • Turn off the printer, wait for about 10 seconds, and then turn it back on.
  • This can sometimes resolve connection issues.

Wi-Fi Direct (Printer's Wi-Fi):

  • Try to connect your phone or computer to the printer's Wi-Fi network directly.
  • Look for the network named something like "HP-Setup-2755" or similar.
  • If it asks for a password, it might be the default password, often found on a label at the back or bottom of the printer.

USB Connection:

  • When connecting via USB, make sure you're using a high-quality USB cable.
  • Check if the printer is recognized by your computer when connected via USB.
  • Install any necessary printer drivers on your computer.

Mobile Printing (Android/iOS):

  • For Android, ensure you have the HP Smart app installed.
  • For iOS, ensure you have the HP Smart app or HP Smart for Desktop installed.
  • Open the app and try to add your printer. It should guide you through the process.

Instant Ink Requirement:

  • If the printer indeed requires an internet connection for Instant Ink, you might need to set it up.
  • Connect the printer to Wi-Fi using the control panel on the printer (if possible).
  • Navigate through the printer's menu to find Wi-Fi settings and enter your Wi-Fi network credentials.

Check Instant Ink Subscription:

  • If you have an Instant Ink subscription, ensure it's active and that the printer is connected to the internet.
  • You may need to go to the HP Instant Ink website to manage your account and check the printer's status.

Blinking Envelope Error:

  • The blinking envelope error could indicate a problem with print jobs in the queue.
  • Try clearing any pending print jobs:
    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the print queue and cancel any pending jobs.
    • On your computer or mobile device, check the print queue and remove any stuck print jobs.

Factory Reset (Last Resort):

  • As a last resort, you can perform a factory reset on the printer.
  • This will erase all settings, including Wi-Fi networks, so be prepared to set it up again.
  • Instructions for a factory reset should be available in the printer's manual or on HP's support website.

Additional Tips:

  • Ensure your phone's hotspot is visible and not hidden. Sometimes phones hide their hotspot SSID by default.
  • If using a USB connection, try different USB ports on your computer.
  • Make sure your phone or computer is not connected to any VPNs that might interfere with the printer connection.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
