Hi @WillieG5,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

I'd be happy to help you!

If your HP 5600 series printer is showing a constant "Clean Printheads" message, this usually indicates an issue with the printheads that might not be resolved by standard cleaning. Here are steps you can follow to address this problem:

Step 1: Perform Basic Printhead Cleaning

Use the Printer's Built-In Cleaning Function:

  • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the settings or maintenance menu.
  • Select the "Clean Printheads" option and follow the on-screen instructions.

Run the Cleaning Cycle Multiple Times:

  • Sometimes, a single cleaning cycle might not be sufficient. Run the cleaning cycle 2-3 times.

Step 2: Manual Cleaning of Printheads

Remove the Printheads:

  • Turn on the printer and open the access door to the printheads.
  • Wait for the print carriage to move to the center and then unplug the printer.
  • Carefully remove the printheads from the carriage.

Clean the Printheads:

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  • Gently wipe the electrical contacts and the nozzles of the printheads.

Dry the Printheads:

  • Allow the printheads to air dry for at least 10 minutes before reinstalling them.

Step 3: Check Ink Cartridges

Inspect Ink Cartridges:

  • Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and that they are not empty.
  • If any cartridges are low on ink, replace them with new ones.

Clean Cartridge Contacts:

  • Use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the electrical contacts on the ink cartridges.

Step 4: Reset the Printer

  1. Power Cycle the Printer:
    • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord from the back.
    • Wait for 60 seconds and then plug the power cord back in.
    • Turn the printer back on and check if the message persists.

Kindly find the next set of steps in the next post.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted for further assistance

Hi @WillieG5,

Please find the next set of steps below.

Step 5: Update Printer Firmware

  1. Check for Firmware Updates:
    • Visit the HP Support website and search for your HP 5600 series printer.
    • Download and install any available firmware updates.

Step 6: Align Printheads

  1. Align Printheads:
    • On the printer's control panel, navigate to the maintenance menu.
    • Select the "Align Printheads" option and follow the on-screen instructions.

Step 7: Advanced Cleaning (if applicable)

  1. Use Advanced Cleaning Functions:
    • Some HP printers have an advanced cleaning option in the maintenance menu. If available, run the advanced cleaning cycle.

If the "Clean Printheads" message persists after trying the above steps, it might indicate a more serious issue with the printheads or the printer itself. Consider contacting HP Phone Support for further assistance:
