HP6978 color pens always go dry at same time

HP6978 printer has separate color pens that always go dry together.  I use HP cartridges.  This happens every time but seems most unlikely.  Black pen does not do this.

@ITCarp Welcome to HP Community!

 I understand you are having issues with the ink getting dried out quickly on your HP Photosmart printer. Don't worry I'll do my best to help you with this.

When the printer is not in use it will go to sleep mode, wake up from time to time to do maintenance to the printhead and then will go back to sleep.

If this maintenance is not done, the nozzles on the printhead will dry out.

I would suggest here is to Clean cartridges automatically

If print quality is unacceptable, and the problem is not low ink levels or non-HP ink, try cleaning the cartridges.

To clean the cartridges from the printer display

1. From the Home screen, press the Settings icon. The Settings Menu is displayed.

2. Touch Tools.

3. Touch Clean Cartridges.

If you have followed the steps suggested and still having the issue. I would suggest this could be a possible hardware issue with the printer. I would recommend you contact our HP phone support for available service related options.
