Microsoft Windows 11

My printer   suddenly stopped printing from all computers on my network, no matter the document type or software program being used. There are no errors or indication of any problems on the printer's web page, there are no errors on the windows printer page. When printing a job, it shows up in the printer queue and the progress bar indicates that the job is being printed, but nothing happens. The printer prints normally from its internal test print menu. I have updated the OS on the computers, uninstalled and reinstalled the printer on the computers, and reset the printer to factory settings. In addition, I have installed and used the HP Print Doctor program which indicates no problem. Curiously, after resetting the printer, it printed 2 pages of a color document in black and white (with color setting enabled) and stopped. In resetting the printer, it again printed 2 pages and stopped. It almost sounds like there is a problem with the buffer in the printer. Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Hi @Franh57

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It seems like you're facing a frustrating issue with your HP OfficeJet Pro 8600 Premium only printing part of a document. This can be caused by several factors, such as software conflicts, network issues, print job settings, or even issues within the printer's internal memory. Let’s go through a few steps to try to resolve the issue.

Here's what you can try:

1. Check Print Queue and Spooler Settings

  • Ensure there are no stuck print jobs in the print queue.
    • Go to Control Panel > Devices and Printers > HP OfficeJet Pro 8600.
    • Right-click on your printer, select See what's printing.
    • If there are any jobs stuck in the queue, cancel them and try again.
  • Clear the print spooler:
    • Press Windows + R, type services.msc, and press Enter.
    • Scroll down to Print Spooler, right-click and select Stop.
    • After stopping it, navigate to C:\Windows\System32\spool\PRINTERS, and delete any files inside this folder.
    • Restart the Print Spooler service by right-clicking on Print Spooler and selecting Start.

2. Check Printer’s Memory and Buffer

Since the printer seems to stop after printing a couple of pages, this could be related to a memory issue or printer buffer overflow.

  • Reset the Printer’s Network Settings (you’ve already reset it to factory settings, but do this again after clearing the print spooler and print queue).
  • Check if there’s a firmware update available for the HP OfficeJet Pro 8600. Sometimes, firmware updates can address issues related to internal memory or print jobs.

3. Try Printing a Different Document

  • Test with different types of documents (e.g., a simple Word document, PDF, image).
  • Test printing from another computer to isolate whether the issue is related to a specific system or the printer itself.

4. Network Connection and Driver Check

  • Network Printer: Since the issue happens across multiple computers on the network, check the printer’s network connection.
    • Ensure the printer is still connected to the correct Wi-Fi network.
    • Try printing directly from a USB connection to see if the problem is related to the network or driver.
  • Reinstall the printer drivers:
    • Uninstall the current printer drivers completely.
    • Go to the HP Support website and download the latest drivers for your printer model.
    • Install the updated drivers and set the printer up again.

I hope this helps.
