@Davis1981, Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding Printer Failure: Problem with Printer or Ink System for HP OfficeJet 8600!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

If your HP OfficeJet 8600 keeps displaying a "Printer Failure: Problem with Printer or Ink System" error message, you can follow these troubleshooting steps to resolve the issue:

Turn Off and On the Printer:

  • Begin by turning off the printer using the power button.
  • Wait a few seconds and then turn the printer back on.

Ensure the Printer is Level:

  • Use the "round object roll test" to check if the printer is level. Place a small round object (like a ball or marble) on top of the printer.
  • If the object rolls to the back and left, the printer is probably level. If it rolls in any other direction, adjust the position to level the printer.

Access Embedded Web Server (EWS):

  • Open the printer's Embedded Web Server by entering the printer's IP address into a web browser.
  • Check the status of the ink supplies and remove any supplies that show a low or empty state. Replace these with new supplies.

Replace Ink Supplies:

  • If the error persists, replace all ink cartridges with new supplies as the error might be due to depleted or malfunctioning ink cartridges.

Run 24 Tap Test:

  • Performing a 24 Tap Test can help diagnose further issues. Refer to your printer documentation on how to run a 24 Tap Test, ensuring the correct steps for the HP OfficeJet 8600 model.

Hope this helps!

Take care, and have an amazing day!
