Hi @sandcbrow1, Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
The "Printhead is damaged" error on your HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 after replacing it with a new authentic printhead suggests one of the following issues:
Troubleshooting Steps:
1. Reseat the Printhead
- Turn off the printer and unplug it.
- Open the cartridge access door and remove the ink cartridges.
- Lift the latch on the printhead and carefully remove it.
- Reinsert the printhead securely and lock it in place.
- Reinstall the ink cartridges and close the door.
- Plug in the printer and turn it on.
2. Clean the Printhead Contacts
- Power off the printer and unplug it.
- Remove the printhead and use a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water to clean the gold-colored contacts.
- Let it dry completely and then reinstall it.
3. Update the Printer Firmware
- Go to HP Support (HP Software & Drivers) and check for the latest firmware update.
- If your printer is not connected to the internet, update the firmware manually using a USB connection.
4. Reset the Printer
- With the printer powered on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
- Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in.
- Turn the printer on and check if the error persists.
5. Use Genuine HP Ink Cartridges
- Ensure all installed ink cartridges are genuine HP cartridges.
- If you recently replaced the printhead, use the setup cartridges that came with it (if available).
6. Perform a Semi-Full Reset
(This resets the printer to factory defaults.)
- On the printer’s control panel, go to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Restore > Restore Factory Defaults.
- Restart the printer and set it up again.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
