Try these steps:

Update Printer Driver

Ensure that your printer driver is up to date. While you believe it is currently at version 3.0, it is good to double-check and ensure the driver is the latest version.

  1. Visit HP Customer Support: Go to the HP Customer Support - Software and Driver Downloads page.
  2. Select Printer Model: Enter "HP OfficeJet 6950" and select your printer model.
  3. Download Latest Driver: Check for the latest available driver for macOS and download it.

Check Print Settings

Verify that the print settings on your Mac are correctly configured.

  1. Print Dialog Box: When printing, click on "File" then "Print" from the application you are using.
  2. Settings: Make sure you have selected the correct paper size, orientation, and print quality settings.

Perform a Printer Reset

Sometimes resetting the printer can help resolve unexpected printing issues.

  1. Turn Off Printer: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Wait: Wait for about one minute.
  3. Reconnect: Plug the printer back in and turn it on.

Try Printing a Different Document

Check if the issue persists with different types of documents.

  1. Print Test Page: Print a test page or a different document to see if the issue is consistent across all print jobs.

Clean Ink Cartridges and Printhead

Ensure the ink cartridges and printhead are clean and functioning properly.

  1. Access Printer Settings:
    • Open the HP OfficeJet 6950 printer software on your Mac.
    • Find and run maintenance options for cleaning the printhead and aligning the cartridges.

let me know if the issue persists.

Hi Kuroi-san, thanks for the response. I completed all the steps outlined in your message but the issue still persists and I now have no issue with word or xl files but continue to experience the same issue with pdf files. If there's further advice you can give then that would be much appreciated.

Thanks very much.

Also should have said I cn print pdf files without any issue from my mobile devices (iPhone) - only the iMac is the issue - I wonder if this is a MacOS printer driver issue as the latest version available for my printer is MacOSX Lion or Mountain, not Sequoia?
