After cancelling my Instant Ink program, I installed ink cartridges from a non-HP supplier off Amazon. The cartridges did not print greens or blues and after many attempts to resolve, I went back to HP cartridges--only to experience the same problem. I have spent many hours following all the common suggestions--reset, hard reset, clean printheads multiple times, manually clean printheads using alcohol/warm water (3 times) and nothing helped. I downloaded a supposed firmware update, but it won't install. It gets to the screen that says select your printer--but it won't allow me to select it. The options are grayed out and it says it is up-to-date. I removed the printer and reinstalled it. I attempted to update the software from HP, but just get error messages over and over.

I would just recycle the printer and buy a different brand, but I just purchased the new HP cartridges (too expensive!) and hate to waste them. So, I'm considering replacing the printhead. Amazon, Walmart, NewEgg, etc all sell reasonably priced non-OEM printheads from China but few of them have any feedback on the printheads. Has anybody replaced theirs with the non-OEM and have some useful comments on the compatibility<

Hi @rcan1015,

Welcome to the HP Support Community!

Thanks for reaching out about your query regarding your printer!

We're thrilled to have the opportunity to assist you and provide a solution.

I understand you're experiencing print quality issues with your HP OfficeJet Pro 6968 after changing ink cartridges. One common issue with using non-HP cartridges is that they can sometimes lead to print quality problems due to variances in ink composition and the printer's compatibility with these cartridges.

Unfortunately, I cannot recommend any non-OEM replacement printheads as these can vary in quality and compatibility. It's generally advised to use HP original cartridges and printheads to ensure consistency and reliability. Here are a few additional troubleshooting steps you might consider:

Ensure Cartridge Authenticity: Make sure the replacement HP cartridges you are using are genuine. You can verify this by checking the packaging and labels.

Run Printer Diagnostic Tools: Use any available diagnostic tools or tests from the printer settings to identify specific issues with the printhead or ink cartridges.

Firmware Update: Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Sometimes, firmware updates can fix compatibility issues or improve performance with different cartridges.

I hope this helps.
