@Azeeza1, Welcome to the HP Support Community – it’s great to have you here!

I appreciate you taking the time to share your question. I'm more than happy to assist with this and provide a solution that works for you.

The 8-digit PIN prompt you're seeing on the printer screen during setup is part of HP's Wi-Fi Direct or WPS security feature, designed to prevent unauthorized access.

Option 1: Check the Printer's Control Panel

  1. On the printer screen, when it asks for the 8-digit PIN, look closely, it should display the PIN directly on the screen for a short time.
  2. If it disappears, restart the printer and retry the setup to get the PIN again.

Option 2: Access the Embedded Web Server (EWS)

  1. Connect your PC or phone to the printer’s Wi-Fi Direct network (e.g., DIRECT-xx-HP1188fnw).
  2. Open a browser and go to: http://192.168.223.1
  3. Login (default username: admin, password might be blank or printed on a label on the back of the printer).
  4. Navigate to Network > Wi-Fi Direct Settings to view or reset the PIN.

Option 3: Use HP Smart App

  1. Download the HP Smart app from HP Smart
  2. Open the app and add your printer.
  3. During setup, the app will prompt for the PIN and may auto-detect it if you're on the same network.

Option 4: Reset Wi-Fi Settings

If you're unable to find the PIN:

  1. On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Network Settings > Restore Network Defaults.
  2. Reboot the printer and retry setup using HP Smart or your PC.

Can't Print Internal Pages?

If you're unable to print internal pages (like reports or test pages), it may be due to:

  • Incomplete setup
  • Network issues
  • Printer in error or sleep mode

Try printing a Configuration Report:

  1. On the printer panel, go to Reports > Configuration Report.
  2. If this fails, perform a power cycle:
    • Turn off the printer, unplug it for 30 seconds, then plug it back in and restart.

I hope your issue is now resolved. If not, feel free to reply and we’ll continue helping until everything’s sorted!
