Having trouble printing envelope #10

HP Recommended
HP 5255
Microsoft Windows 10 (32-bit)

Can't get my printer to print envelopes from either computer it is hooked up to. One is Windows 7 hard wired to printer. The other is Windows 10 working through the network. It will not recognize that paper is loaded if it is an envelope. I have modified the paper to Envelope #10. This worked fine until a few weeks ago.

Assuming the printer panel knows what kind / size of paper supposed to be in the tray, that part should be OK.

The envelope must (of course) be loaded in the printer properly.

It is possible that the Preferences have been left / pre-set to a "not an envelope" shortcut.

Much depends on what you are using to create the envelope and how the job is submitted to the printer.

Although it might not prevent the job from printing "something" the envelope, the Feed options must agree with the actual positioning of the envelope stack in the tray (orientation and flap position).

 User Guide

Load Envelope - Pages 15-16

Check / Adjust / Retain the Paper at the Printer Panel

Open Printer Tray,

If you have not yet done so, add desired paper type

Close Tray

IF applicable for your printer:

Look for a message on the Printer Control Panel,

Click Modify (wording varies), set the paper size and type, Click OK

NOTE:  If the size of the Paper Size is not in the Drop-down menu, Select Custom (likely the last selection in the list)

Set the Preferences - Windows

  1. Check / enable the printer as the “Default Printer”

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Set as Default

  1. Select and adjust settings in each category for the Media (kind of paper), source (tray), and paper size.

Control Panel > icon view > Devices and Printers > Right-Click on your printer > Printing Preferences

OR

Windows key + S (search for) Printers and Scanners

Left-Click on (your) Printer > Manage > Printing Preferences

Next

Tab Printing Shortcuts > Click / Highlight your preferred shortcut > Click Apply > Click OK to exit

NOTE - Make changes to a Shortcut

  • Select a shortcut and adjust the settings for paper, source (tray), other settings
  • If there is a More > section, check / adjust settings in the sub-sections > Click OK to save sub-menu changes
  • If supported, save the edited shortcut or use “Save As” or “Create Custom Shortcut” to save under a new name
  • Click OK to save the setup

General Example - Print Envelope - Word > Mailings > Envelope

Rabbits_and_Chickens_Test_Envelope_10_1Rabbits_and_Chickens_Test_Envelope_10_1

Use the Embedded Web Server (EWS) to adjust / verify the Tray and Paper Management settings.

Example

EWS > Settings > Preferences > Tray and Paper Management

EWS_9025_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_1EWS_9025_Preferences_Tray_and_Paper_Management_1
