How do you absolutely know if you need a new printhead or not for the photosmart c310a?

HP Recommended
HP photosmart premium
Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

I've already soaked the printhead in a solution and I'm still getting the "printhead problem" error message. It's a used untested printer I picked up

It's impossible to know until the printhead is replaced.

Soaking is good when the printhead is working but with print quality issues, can't be helpful for other printhead problems.
