Hi @butterblue,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

You can connect your HP Photosmart 6520 printer to the internet using just your iPhone by setting up a wireless connection through the printer's control panel. Here's a step-by-step guide.

  • Prepare your printer: Make sure your printer is turned on and ready for setup. Ensure it has ink and paper.
  • Connect to Wi-Fi Direct: The HP Photosmart 6520 supports Wi-Fi Direct, which allows you to connect your iPhone directly to the printer without needing a traditional Wi-Fi network. To do this, press the Wireless button on the printer's control panel. Select Wi-Fi Direct and follow the on-screen instructions to set it up.
  • Enable Wi-Fi on your iPhone: Open the Settings app on your iPhone and turn on Wi-Fi.
  • Connect to the printer: On your iPhone, you should see the HP printer listed under available Wi-Fi networks. Select the printer's network to connect to it.
  • Download HP Smart app (if not already installed): Visit the App Store on your iPhone and download the HP Smart app. This app will allow you to manage your printer and print from your iPhone.
  • Set up printer in HP Smart app: Open the HP Smart app and follow the on-screen instructions to set up your printer. Make sure to select the Wi-Fi Direct connection option when prompted.
  • Print a test page: Once your printer is set up in the HP Smart app, try printing a test page to ensure everything is working correctly.

If you encounter any errors during the setup process, such as the "server connection error" you mentioned, make sure your iPhone has a stable internet connection. Additionally, check the printer's Wi-Fi settings to ensure they are configured correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
