Hi @NOTL101,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Clearing a paper jam in your HP OfficeJet 5740 printer involves accessing several areas where paper might be stuck. Here are the detailed steps to clear the jam and ensure your printer is functioning properly again:

Steps to Clear a Paper Jam in HP OfficeJet 5740:

Turn Off the Printer:

  • Press the power button to turn off the printer.Disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.

Remove All Paper Trays:

  • Remove the paper input tray and any paper output tray, if applicable.Check the trays for any jammed paper and remove it.

Open the Ink Cartridge Access Door:

  • Lift the ink cartridge access door to get to the print carriage area.Wait until the print carriage moves to the center and becomes idle and silent.

Check and Remove Jammed Paper:

  • Look inside the print carriage area for any jammed paper.Gently pull out any paper you find, being careful not to tear it.

Open the Paper Path Cover:

  • Locate and open the paper path cover at the rear of the printer. This cover is often referred to as the "paper jam door."To remove the rear paper path cover, pinch the two tabs together and pull the cover away from the printer.

Remove Jammed Paper from the Rear:

  • Check for any jammed paper inside the rear paper path.Gently pull out any paper you find, ensuring there are no torn pieces left inside.

Check the Automatic Document Feeder (ADF):

  • Open the ADF cover and check for any paper stuck inside.Carefully remove any jammed paper from the ADF.

Reassemble the Printer:

  • Once you have removed all jammed paper, reassemble the printer.Close the ink cartridge access door and the rear paper path cover.Reinsert the paper trays.

Reconnect and Power On:

  • Plug the power cord back into the printer.Turn on the printer and wait for it to initialize.

Perform a Test Print:

  • Load paper into the input tray.Perform a test print to ensure the printer is working correctly.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
