HP OfficeJet Pro 8028
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have a brand new OfficeJet Pro 8028 and it works fine, but a few days after I received it I played around with the touchscreen (I believe to do a copy), and ever since then (about a week) the touchscreen is always on. I managed to find a knob to control the brightness, but I would think that the touchscreen would automatically just turn off after some period of time.

Is that not the case? Or is there some setting that needs to be configured properly?

Hi @jplank,

I'd like to help with the screen issue.

Let's try a power reset on the printer

Reset the product

  • With the printer turned on, disconnect the power cord from the rear of the printer.
  • Unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.
  • Wait at least 60 seconds.
  • Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the printer.
  • Turn the printer on. HP recommends plugging the printer directly into a wall outlet.

Also, try updating the printer's firmware - HP Printers - Updating or Upgrading Printer Firmware

Change the sleep mode settings

Use the following instructions to change the period of inactivity before the printer sleeps.

1. From the printer control panel, touch or swipe down the tab at the top of the screen to open the Dashboard, touch.

2. Touch Sleep Mode, and then touch the desired option.

Hope this helps! Keep me posted.

Checking the settings for sleep mode, that was set to 5 mins. If the screen is supposed to go off after 5 minutes, that certainly wasn't happening.

The "unplug the power cord" did the trick. After it came back one, the screen did turn off after about 5 mins. But you know, that's a bug. I shouldn't have to "unplug the power cord" when this happens. It's a brand new printer.

Have you tried updating the firmware?
