  • It keeps trying to move the print carriage when the ink sucker is up. I have moved the ink sucker back manually  in order to get the the ink carriage to move side to side. It moves back and forth and gets the the home position and the the ink sucker goes back and forth but then the ink carriage will try to move again with the sucker up and faults out with the hp0x100004a

Hi @Minter2428,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

I understand you're encountering a common issue where the print carriage and the ink suction mechanism (sometimes referred to as the service station) aren't syncing up properly, causing the HP printer error code 0x6100004a. Here is a general troubleshooting approach:

Steps to Fix the Error

Perform a Printer Reset:

  • Turn the printer OFF by pressing the power button.
  • Disconnect the power cord from the printer and the wall outlet.
  • Wait for about 60 seconds.
  • Reconnect the power cord to the wall outlet and the printer.
  • Turn the printer ON to see if the error persists.

Check for Paper Jams:

  • Make sure there are no paper jams inside the printer.
  • Open the printer cover and check for any obstructions around the print carriage area or the service station.

Inspect the Carriage Path:

  • With the printer OFF, gently move the print carriage to ensure it can move freely from side to side without obstructions.
  • Ensure there is no debris blocking the path of the carriage or the service station.

Re-seat the Ink Cartridges:

  • Open the ink cartridge access door.
  • Remove and reinstall the ink cartridges to ensure proper contact.
  • Close the ink cartridge access door.

Update Printer Firmware:

  • Ensure your printer firmware is up to date. Visit the https://support.hp.com/us-en  to check for any available firmware updates for your specific printer model.

    I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
