Hi @RodgerShaneeda, Welcome to HP Support Community. 🙂
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Your HP ENVY 4520 sits quietly, unresponsive, as you press "Black Copy"—no whirring, no mechanical hum, just silence. If your printer refuses to spring into action, try these steps to wake it up:
1️⃣ Check the Basics
- Ensure the printer is turned on and has paper in the tray.
- Check if there is any error message on the printer screen.
- Try pressing "Color Copy" to see if it works.
2️⃣ Power Reset
- Turn off the printer.
- Unplug it from power for at least 60 seconds.
- Plug it back in and turn it on.
- Try copying again.
3️⃣ Check for Paper Jams
- Open the scanner lid and remove any stuck paper.
- Open the rear access door and check for paper jams.
- Restart the printer and try copying again.
4️⃣ Clean the Scanner Glass
- Use a lint-free cloth with glass cleaner to wipe the scanner glass.
- Try copying again.
5️⃣ Check for Firmware Updates
- Go to HP Support → HP Software & Drivers.
- Download and install any firmware updates available for your printer.
6️⃣ Reset the Printer to Factory Settings
- On the printer control panel, go to Setup (⚙️) > Printer Maintenance > Restore Defaults.
- Select Restore Factory Defaults.
- Try copying again.
I hope this helps. 🚀
Take care and have a good day. 😇
