Hi @Gus2Hec,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A red exclamation mark on your HP Smart Tank 5202 printer usually indicates an issue that requires attention. Here are some steps you can try to resolve this.

Check for Error Messages on the Printer Display: See if the printer’s screen provides any specific error code or message. This might give more details on what’s causing the issue.

Restart the Printer: Turn off the printer, unplug it for about 30 seconds, then plug it back in and turn it on again. This often clears minor errors.

Check Ink Levels: Ensure that all ink tanks have enough ink. Sometimes, low ink levels can trigger a warning that might prevent printing.

Check for Paper Jams or Open Doors: Make sure there is no paper jam, and that all printer doors are securely closed.

Check the HP Smart App for Details: Open the HP Smart app on your device to check for notifications or error messages related to the red exclamation mark.

Update Firmware and Drivers: Ensure the printer’s firmware and drivers are up to date. You can download the latest drivers from the HP Support website.

Perform a Hard Reset:

  • With the printer on, unplug the power cord from the back of the printer.
  • Wait 60 seconds, then plug it back in and turn the printer on.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
