HP DeskJet 4227e All-in-One Printer
Microsoft Windows 11

Installed this printer last week and one of the install items was an HP Ai print assistant.  Sounded good but it turns out it worked for about a week and now hangs every time I try to print.  Brand new printer and it is useless now due to HP software glitch.  How do I disable the HP Universal Print option and just print from the system dialog box???  I need this thing to work!

@webitect, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

If you are experiencing issues with the HP Ai Print Assistant and would like to disable the HP Universal Print Driver option to revert to using the system dialog box for printing, you can follow these steps:

Access Printer Settings:

  • Click on the Start menu and navigate to Settings.
  • Select Devices and then Printers & Scanners.

Choose the Correct Printer:

  • Locate your HP DeskJet 4227e from the list of printers.
  • Click on the printer and select Manage.

Modify Printer Preferences:

  • Under the Printer preferences, look for any option mentioning HP Universal Print Driver or similar.
  • You may find options like Printing Defaults, Printing Preferences, or Advanced settings that allow changing the driver or disabling features.

Switch to Default System Driver:

  • If there is an option to select a different driver, you can try setting it to use the default system printer driver that Windows provides.
  • This might involve selecting Set as default printer or manually choosing a different driver in the driver options.

Disable HP Print Assistant (if directly disabling isn't an option):

  • Check if the HP Print Assistant has a separate uninstall or disable option in the Control Panel under Programs and Features.
  • Look for HP Ai Print Assistant or related software and uninstall it if it continues to cause issues.

I hope this helps.

Please feel free to reply here if you have any questions or if you need further clarification on any of the steps.

Take care and have a good day.
