Hi @Mark2459,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet 3831 is not printing in color, here are some troubleshooting steps to help resolve the issue.

Check Printer Settings

  • On your computer, go to the Print Settings for your document or file.
  • Ensure that the print settings are not set to "Grayscale" or "Black & White".
  • If available, select "Color" or "Automatic" mode.

Check Ink Levels

  • On the printer display panel, navigate to Settings > Estimated Ink Levels.
  • Ensure the color ink cartridge has sufficient ink. If the color ink is low, replace it with a new one.

Clean the Printhead

  • On the printer's control panel, go to Settings > Tools > Clean Printhead.
  • Perform a cleaning cycle and print a test page. This will help clear any clogs that might be affecting color printing.

Align the Printhead

  • After cleaning the printhead, go to Settings > Tools > Align Printhead.
  • This ensures that the cartridges are properly aligned.

Reinstall the Printer Driver

  • Uninstall the current printer driver from your computer.
  • Download the latest driver for the HP OfficeJet 3831 from the HP Support Website.
  • Install the driver and ensure it is configured for color printing.

Check Cartridge Compatibility and Installation

  • Verify that the color ink cartridge is compatible with your printer. Use HP 302 color ink cartridges or any region-specific equivalent.
  • Remove the color cartridge, inspect it for protective tape, and ensure it is properly seated in the carriage.

Test with Another Document

  • Print a test document or an image that is known to have colors. Sometimes, the issue might be related to the document being printed.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
