Hi @MacViseu,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP OfficeJet Pro 7740 has a black LCD screen with only the side icons lit and is not recognized by your computer, here are some steps to troubleshoot the issue:

1. Power Cycle the Printer

  • Turn Off the Printer: Press the power button to turn off the printer.
  • Unplug the Power Cable: Disconnect the power cable from the back of the printer and from the wall outlet.
  • Wait for 60 Seconds: This can help reset the printer’s internal circuitry.
  • Reconnect and Power On: Plug the power cable back in and turn the printer on.

2. Check Power Source

  • Ensure the power outlet is functioning properly by plugging in another device.
  • If you’re using a power strip, try plugging the printer directly into the wall outlet.

3. Inspect Connections

  • Check all cable connections, including USB or Ethernet cables, to ensure they are securely connected.
  • If using USB, try a different port on your computer.

4. Perform a Hard Reset

  • Remove Cartridges: Open the printer and remove the ink cartridges.
  • Wait: Leave the printer without cartridges for about 60 seconds.
  • Reinsert Cartridges: After the wait, reinsert the cartridges and power on the printer.

5. Check for Error Messages

  • Look for any flashing lights or error codes. If there are any, consult the printer manual or HP’s support site for their meanings.

6. Connect to a Different Computer

  • If possible, connect the printer to a different computer to see if it’s recognized there.

7. Check for Firmware Updates

  • If you can get the printer operational, check for any firmware updates through the HP Smart app or HP website.

8. Factory Reset (as a last resort)

  • If the printer still doesn’t respond, consider performing a factory reset:
    • Note that this will erase all settings, so proceed with caution.
    • Check the printer manual or HP support for specific instructions on how to perform a factory reset.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
