HP Office jet pro 8620 all in one printer fax scanner copier,  product number A7F65A. I am unable to get through to hp support  due to the not recognized serial number. This is in regards to an issue were my printer will after 30 minutes of being idle will start flashing all lights and have the message "turn printer off then back on" in the display window. I have tried all the simple solutions IE. turning it on and off, un-plugging it both from the back of the printer and the wall out let. resetting the wireless connection. still no solution. and now i cant contact hp support without the serial number being recognized.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hi @dargator9,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

That’s a frustrating issue, and you’ve already tried the right basic steps. The flashing lights and “Turn printer off then back on” message on the HP OfficeJet Pro 8620 (A7F65A) usually indicate a firmware or hardware fault, not a simple jam or network problem.

Steps to Fix

1. Hard Reset

  • Turn off the printer.
  • Unplug from the wall and printer for 2–3 minutes.
  • Press and hold the Power button for 15 seconds (discharges residual power).
  • Plug back in and restart.

2. Update Firmware

If the printer boots normally after reset:

3. Check Power Source

  • Plug directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).
  • Ensure stable voltage.

4. If Issue Persists

  • This is often a formatter board failure or firmware loop.
  • HP recommends a service repair for this error.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

the firmware update seems to have done the trick, i would still like to figure out if i can get the serial number to work in the hp look up but that's a small issue now that the printer is no longer flashing constantly.

Hi @dargator9,

That’s great news, I’m really glad to hear the firmware update resolved the flashing issue! 😊 It sounds like your printer is back to normal operation now, which is a relief.

Everything else sounds like it’s working perfectly now, so you can take your time checking the serial lookup later.

If you need any assistance in the future, please do keep us posted.

Take care and have an amazing day!
