I added an "Admin" password with the HP Utility "Security" area. It will not accept this user name(admin) and password. I am locked out. How is a re-set done?

Hi @YeOldePrinting,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand you are trying to reset the HP OfficeJet Pro 8710 All-In-One Printer and clear the admin password, you can perform a semi-full reset. Please follow these steps carefully:

Semi-Full Reset

  1. Power off the printer: Disconnect the power cord from the back of the printer while it is still on.
  2. Wait for 60 seconds: Allow the printer to fully power down.
  3. Reconnect the power cord: Plug the power cord back into the printer.
  4. Power on the printer: Turn the printer back on by pressing the power button if it does not turn on automatically.
  5. Access the support menu:
    • On the printer's control panel, touch the back button (located at the bottom left corner of the screen) four times in quick succession. This should bring up the support menu.
  6. Reset the printer:
    • In the support menu, scroll down and find the option labeled "Reset Menu" or similar.
    • Select "Semi-Full Reset." This will restore the printer to its factory default settings, including clearing the admin password.
  7. Reconfigure the printer: After the reset, you'll need to set up the printer again as if it were new, including reconnecting to your network and reconfiguring any settings.

Note

  • Performing a semi-full reset will erase all settings, including the admin password, network settings, and any saved fax numbers.
  • Make sure to reconfigure your printer after the reset to restore its functionality to your preferences.
