I have HP smart tank 580 on which I'm getting E2 error. I have checked and found the paper setup to be A4 and thats the same type of paper I'm using in my printer. But nothing seems to fix this issue. Please assist.

Hi @V1n1t

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I'm really sorry you're seeing the E2 error on your HP Smart Tank 580—it’s especially frustrating when the paper is clearly A4 and everything seems correctly set. This error typically points to a mismatch between the printer’s internal settings and the print job configuration.

Let’s walk through a few precise steps to help restore smooth printing.

Steps to Fix E2 Paper Mismatch Error on HP Smart Tank 580

1. Confirm Paper Size in Printer Settings

  • On the printer control panel, go to Settings > Preferences > Paper Size
  • Make sure it’s set to A4 (210 x 297 mm)
  • Save and exit the menu

2. Match Paper Size in Print Dialog (Windows 11)

  • Open the document you want to print
  • Go to File > Print > Printer Properties
  • Under Paper Size, select A4
  • Under Page Setup or Advanced, ensure Scaling is set to None or Actual Size
  • Avoid settings like “Fit to Page” or “Custom Size”

3. Check Paper Type and Tray Settings

  • Use plain white A4 paper, not glossy or photo paper
  • Ensure the paper guides in the tray are snug against the paper edges
  • In the print dialog, confirm Paper Type is set to Plain Paper

4. Reset the Printer

  • Turn off the printer and unplug the power cord
  • Wait 60 seconds
  • Plug it back in and power on
  • Try printing a test page from the HP App

Download or reinstall if needed: HP App for Windows

5. Update Firmware

Outdated firmware can cause miscommunication between software and hardware.

6. Run Paper Mismatch Troubleshooter

Let me know if you'd like help checking your firmware version or confirming the paper tray setup. Once these steps are complete, your printer should resume printing without the E2 interruption.
