I have an Officejet pro 8020 and I am getting a printhead problem error. I have tried the clean and align and self repair option several times and it does not clear the error. I cannot seem to find a printhead replacement part available. Can this be fixed?

Hi @napskate,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

Dealing with a printhead problem in your Officejet Pro 8020 can be frustrating, especially when the usual cleaning and aligning methods don't work. Here are a few steps you can try to potentially fix the issue or decide on further actions:

Reset the Printer: Sometimes a simple reset can clear error messages. To reset your printer, unplug it from the power source for about a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.

Manual Cleaning:

  • Remove the Printhead: Consult your printer’s manual for instructions on how to remove the printhead. Usually, for HP Officejet printers, lifting the cartridge access door will allow you to access and remove the printhead.
  • Clean Manually: Use a lint-free cloth lightly dampened with distilled water or a printhead cleaner to gently wipe the printhead nozzles. Avoid touching the nozzles directly with your fingers.
  • Reinstall and Test: Once the printhead is dry, reinstall it and run a test print.

Check for Firmware Updates: Sometimes printer firmware updates contain bug fixes that can resolve hardware error messages. Check the HP website or the HP Smart app to see if any updates are available for your printer model.

If this does not resolve, It must be a hardware issue.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
