HP Deskjet 3700 Series

I have tried printing labels from three different devices to my printer a HP DeskJet 3700 Series and none of them will show the correct media type that I need to print on. I need to print on Labels or Card Stock but neither will show up. Is printing labels with this printer even possible?

Hi @KielyMogren

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand how frustrating it feels when you’re trying to print labels or card stock and the correct media type doesn’t appear in the options. You’ve already done the right checks across multiple devices, and your persistence deserves appreciation.

Let’s look closely at what the HP DeskJet 3700 Series supports and how you can work around the limitation.

Media compatibility for HP DeskJet 3700 Series

  • This series is designed primarily for plain paper, photo paper, and brochure paper.
  • It does not officially support labels or heavy card stock because the paper path and feed rollers are optimized for lightweight media.
  • Attempting to use unsupported media can lead to paper jams, misfeeds, or poor print quality.

Workarounds

1. Use plain paper settings for labels

  • When printing labels, select Plain Paper as the media type in the HP App or Windows print dialog.
  • Load the label sheets carefully, ensuring they are flat and within the printer’s supported weight range (usually up to 90–100 gsm).
  • Print one sheet at a time to reduce feed issues.

2. Adjust paper handling

  • Place the label sheet in the input tray with guides snug against the edges.
  • Avoid curled or partially peeled sheets.
  • If the printer struggles to feed, gently fan the stack and try again.

3. For card stock

  • The DeskJet 3700 is not designed for heavy card stock. If you must print on thicker paper, use lightweight cardstock within the supported gsm range (typically up to 100 gsm).
  • Select Plain Paper or Brochure Paper in the print settings.
  • Feed one sheet at a time to avoid jams.

Summary

Printing labels is possible with the DeskJet 3700 if you treat them as plain paper in the settings and feed them carefully one sheet at a time. Card stock is more limited—only lightweight types may work reliably. For heavier specialty media, a printer designed for thicker paper paths would be more suitable.
