Hi @DavidO1970,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your printer's information light is on and it’s preventing you from printing, it usually indicates that there is some kind of issue that needs to be resolved. Here are some steps you can follow to diagnose and clear the issue:

1. Check for Error Messages

  • Review the Printer’s Display Panel: Look at the printer’s display panel (if it has one) or check the printer software on your computer for any specific error messages or codes. These messages can give clues about what the problem is.

2. Resolve Common Issues

Here are some common issues that can cause the information light to come on:

  • Paper Jam: Check for and clear any paper jams in the printer. Open all the accessible doors and remove any jammed paper carefully.
  • Ink Cartridges: Ensure that the ink cartridges are properly installed and that they have sufficient ink. Check for any protective tape or packaging that might still be on the cartridges.
  • Printer Status: Verify that the printer is properly connected to your computer and that there are no connectivity issues.

3. Restart the Printer

  • Power Cycle: Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source. Wait for about 1-2 minutes, then plug it back in and turn it on. This can sometimes clear minor errors or issues.

4. Check Printer Connections

  • Wiring: Ensure all cables (USB or network) are securely connected. If you’re using a wireless connection, make sure the printer is properly connected to your network.

5. Perform Printer Maintenance

  • Printer Cleaning: Run any built-in maintenance tasks such as print head cleaning or alignment, if applicable. Check your printer’s manual or software for options.
  • Check Paper Tray: Make sure the paper tray is loaded correctly and that the paper is not wrinkled or stuck.

6. Update Printer Drivers

  • Driver Update: Ensure that you have the latest printer drivers installed. Visit the manufacturer’s website to download and install any updates.

7. Reset the Printer

  • Factory Reset: If the above steps don’t work, you might need to perform a factory reset on your printer. Refer to the printer’s manual or the HP website for instructions on how to perform a factory reset

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
