Hi @lollypop4

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

It sounds like your printer is prompting you to connect to HP Instant Ink in order to print, which is often seen when the printer is either enrolled in the HP Instant Ink program or when there’s an issue with ink levels or subscription status. Here’s how you can address this issue:

1. Check HP Instant Ink Subscription Status

If your printer is enrolled in HP Instant Ink, you’ll need to make sure that the subscription is active, and your printer is correctly linked to your account.

  • Log in to your HP Instant Ink account at HP Instant Ink.
  • Check if your subscription is active and that there are no billing issues or suspension.
  • If you don’t have a subscription, but you’ve been enrolled, you might want to either activate the service or opt out.

2. Verify Printer Connection

Sometimes, the printer might not be properly connected to the Internet or to your HP Instant Ink account, causing issues like this. Here's how you can check:

  • Check Wi-Fi Connection: Ensure that your printer is connected to the same Wi-Fi network as your computer or phone. If the printer isn’t connected to the Internet, it won’t be able to communicate with the HP Instant Ink service.
    • Go to the printer’s Network Settings and verify the connection.
  • Check Printer Status: If using the HP Smart App on your phone or computer, ensure that your printer is showing as connected and ready to print.

3. Update Your Printer’s Firmware

Sometimes a firmware issue can cause problems with the Instant Ink service. You can try updating the printer’s firmware to ensure everything is working properly:

  • On your printer's display screen, navigate to Setup > Printer Maintenance > Update the Printer.
  • Alternatively, you can do this through the HP Smart App if you're using it.

4. Re-enroll in HP Instant Ink (If Needed)

If the printer is not showing as enrolled in HP Instant Ink or is disconnected from the service, you may need to re-enroll it:

  • Go to HP Instant Ink’s website or use the HP Smart App to re-enroll your printer.
  • Once enrolled, make sure the printer syncs with the account so it can use the Instant Ink service to check ink levels.

5. Opt-Out of HP Instant Ink (If You Don’t Want to Use It)

If you don't want to use HP Instant Ink anymore, you can opt out of the service:

  • Cancel your HP Instant Ink subscription directly from your HP Instant Ink account.
  • Once the service is canceled, you should be able to print normally with standard ink cartridges.

After canceling, make sure to replace any Instant Ink cartridges with regular cartridges (if you haven’t done so already).

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
