Hi @Gramme2,

Welcome to The HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I understand the error message indicates a serious issue with the printer's ink system or internal hardware. Since you’ve already tried basic troubleshooting, here are additional steps to help resolve the issue:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Turn off the printer and unplug it from the power source.
  2. Remove all ink cartridges from the printer.
  3. Wait 2-3 minutes, then plug the printer back in and turn it on.
  4. When prompted, reinstall the ink cartridges. Make sure they are genuine HP cartridges and properly seated.
  5. Check if the error persists.

Step 2: Inspect the Ink Cartridges and Printhead

  1. Remove the cartridges again and inspect them for:
    • Dirt, ink smears, or residue on the electrical contacts.
    • Physical damage, such as cracks or leaks.
  2. Gently clean the electrical contacts on the cartridges and inside the printer using a lint-free cloth slightly dampened with distilled water.
  3. Check the printhead (where the cartridges sit):
    • Remove and inspect it for clogs or dried ink.
    • Clean the printhead with a damp lint-free cloth if necessary.
    • Let it dry completely before reinstalling.

Step 3: Reset the Printer to Factory Settings

Resetting the printer might clear internal errors:

  1. On the printer's touchscreen, go to Settings > Printer Maintenance > Restore Factory Settings (or similar options).
  2. Follow the prompts to reset the printer.
  3. Reconnect the printer to your network if necessary.

Step 4: Update the Printer’s Firmware Update the firmware on an HP printer

Outdated firmware can cause errors.

  1. Download and install the HP Smart App on your computer or smartphone.
  2. Use the app to check for and install any available firmware updates for your printer.

Step 5: Remove and Reinstall the Printhead

If the problem persists, you may need to reseat or clean the printhead more thoroughly:

  1. Power off the printer and unplug it.
  2. Open the printer to access the printhead.
  3. Gently lift the latch to release the printhead and remove it.
  4. Clean the electrical contacts on the printhead with a damp lint-free cloth.
  5. Reinsert the printhead securely, close the latch, and reinstall the cartridges.
